Newest additions to the Farm

25 Bourbon Red Turkeys

A little over a month ago, McMurrary Hatchery had a "How do you chicken?" Contest.  To enter, you must post a video to Youtube of how you house your chickens.  We already had an old video on Youtube of Chris making our chicken coop, so I decided to enter it... Well... It won!!!
$250 gift card, since we already have chicken and incubate them too, we decided to go for turkeys.  With our gift card we were able to buy 25 turkeys.  They arrived in the mail today.
So now, we have turkeys!

Asparagus!!!

Today the children picked this piece of asparagus from our garden.  The children brought it in and said it was as tall as Philip.  Well, not quite, but almost as tall.  And we ate the whole thing... believe it or not... it was delicious, not twiggy at all... good to the bottom!

Garden Update

Our Garden Fence is almost finished, except the gate, which we need a little help from Daddy this weekend.  Our garden flower bed is planted, but our garden sign is still awaiting words,  I am trying to decided what it should say.  Maybe "Welcome to our Garden."   In this photo, the children are planting seeds, trying to get them in before it rains today!

Spring has Sprung!

Last week our baby chicks hatched in our incubator.  Chris started to make us a new brooder house.  And plans began to be made for our summer garden.  Today Abigail tilled the garden (all by herself) and the children and I fixed the old fence that was falling down.  Here is a quick snapshot I took while I was inside taking a break and nursing Nathanael.  I couldn't resist this snap shot as I saw all the children working together to stretch out the fence.  Such a beautiful thing watching the children work together!

We are hoping to get the seeds in today since it's suppose to rain tomorrow, but with Daddy working in Charlotte and since I'm nursing a newborn, I'm not sure how much the children will be able to accomplish.  We will see... they are determine to plant those seeds!
